Powder Brows Healing & Aftercare: Tips for the Best Results

Permanent and semi-permanent makeup makes a great part of the beauty industry. It seems like new techniques have been emerging every day. When it comes to eyebrows, there already exist a number of treatments. You just need to choose the right eyebrow treatment for you. Since powder brows is one of the most popular version of semi-permanent brow makeup and here’s everything you need to know about the healing process and the aftercare.

What are Powder Brows?

Powder brows, or ombre powder brows, is a treatment that uses a special shading technique for achieving a natural looking eyebrows with a powder effect. It uses a combination of dots and shading to fill in the brows, making them look thicker and more symmetrical. The result is powdery brows that will give your face a makeup look.

Do Powder Brows Fade and How to Prevent that?

Unlike traditional tattooed brows, this treatment is not permanent because the pigment is not inserted so deep into the skin. The treatment is semi-permanent, which means that the color will fade after some time.

Depending on your skin type, lifestyle and how you treat your brows, they can last from one to three years. With the regular touch ups you can prolong the effect and pristine look of the brows.

What Does the Healing Process Look Like?

Since the procedure involves inserting tiny dots of pigment gradually into the skin, making sure there are no harsh edges but a soft and smooth shading effect, your brows will be a bit swollen and too dark immediately after the treatment.

The healing process takes 4-6 weeks, during which you need to be extra careful about your brows.

Here is what you can expect during the healing period:

Day 1 and 2

Your brows are too dark and they look like a block of pigment. Also, redness is present and they might be swollen. You might not be satisfied, but be prepared for this.

Day 3

The first thing you will notice is scabbing. After the ombre powder brows treatment, scabs fall off in one big or a few big pieces.

Day 4 – 10

This period is the most difficult to overcome, Scabs keep falling off, leaving your brows in patches. Your brows are itchy but under no circumstances should you scratch or touch them. Carry on with the aftercare routine and be patent.

Day 10 – 14

Your brows look too light and you must think that the whole process has been unsuccessful. Scabs are not that common anymore. The healing period is almost over.

Day 14 – 21

Your brows are coming back! They are taking their final shape and look much better. However, they might still look a little bit patchy and uneven.

Day 21 – 30

Your brows are completely healed. Now it’s time to book a touch-up appointment to correct any possible patches and flaws.

What Can Affect the Powder Brows Healing?

There are various factors that affect the speed and pace of the healing process:

  • Skin type – certain skin type heals faster and the pigment sets in perfectly

  • Age

  • Diet

  • Smoking – slows down the healing process

  • Physical activity – if you sweat a lot, it will negatively affect the healing process

  • Exposure to the sunlight – avoid direct exposure to the sun

What Do I Need to Know About Scabbing?

Scabbing is quite normal and very common after powder brow treatment. Most of the people experience it. However, heavy scabbing can be worrying and you should contact your powder brow artist or a dermatologist in case it happens to you.

Scabs don’t appear immediately after the treatment. You can expect them after 3-5 days, and they can last up to two weeks.

It is important not to touch them because you can seriously damage your eyebrows and slow down the healing process.

Do not try to stop scabbing. What you can do is gently “wash” your brows in the morning and in the evening with a cotton pad and a little bit of sterile water. If your artist recommends it, you can use an ointment to treat the area and stimulate the scabs to fall off faster.

What Does the Aftercare Entail?

Ombre powder brows aftercare can determine the success of the treatment. You must religiously follow the instructions given by your powder brow artist. Here are the dos and donts of the aftercare:

Day 1:

  • After procedure blot the brows with the tissue or dry cotton pad every 10 minutes for the first few hours

  • The goal is to get rid of excess lymph to help speed up the healing time!

  • Before bed, gently wash brows with clean warm water and gentle cleanser, pat dry with a clean tissue, then apply a rice sized dab of ointment.

Day 2-7:

  • Gently wash brows with warm water and gentle cleanser morning and night

  • Then apply a rice sized dab of aftercare cream.

Days 1-10:

  • DO NOT put anything (makeup lotions, etc.) other than aftercare cream on the brows for 10 days or until fully healed. You can wear makeup as usual, just avoid the brow area.

  • Enjoy your shower , but try and keep it to a minimum.

Healing Tips:

  • Do not use a wash cloth or anything abrasive.

  • Do not pick or scratch your brows

  • Avoid hut tubs, steam rooms, pools, lakes/rivers& hot yoga during the healing process

  • Avoid direct sunlight & tanning beds for 2 weeks.

  • Avoid brow makeup, brow or lash tints and any other facial treatments for 10 days.

  • Avoid sweaty exercise for 1 week.

Once the healing period is over and your ombre brows have taken the final look, you can be more relaxed. Now you can wash your face normally, apply makeup, sleep on your face, work out or do whatever you want.

Tips on keeping your eyebrows looking fantastic:

  • Wear daily sunscreen to prevent the sun from prematurely fading the pigment in the skin.

  • Avoid using face products that contain retinol, glycolic or lactic acids because they speed up fading.

  • If a product lightens, brightens or tightens avoid using it on or around your brows indefinitely.

  • We recommend yearly touch-ups to maintain the full color and shape.

  • After applying your makeup /foundation , take a damp Q-tip and clean off your brows: this allows the pigment to show through without looking muddled by makeup.

Do I Need Touch Ups and How Often?

Ombre powder treatment consists of two visits, so it can be said that the first touch up is mandatory. The first touch up should be done after the healing period is over, which is 4-6 weeks after the treatment. Its purpose is to correct all the imperfections. For example, if your skin didn’t take the pigment in some spots, there is the touch up to fix it.

Other touch-ups are optional. If you want your ombre powder brows to last longer, frequent touch-ups are required. The frequency depends on how quickly the color fades. You should book an appointment as soon as you notice the color is disappearing. If you let it fade too much, you might need to complete the entire treatment. It will cost you more and it is more painful to do everything all over again.

Conclusion

It is very important to follow all the tips given in order to get great results. After that, you can enjoy in your beautiful, natural-looking, powdered brows.
